Gill Lake

Grant Thornton UK LLP
Senior Pensions Manager

I moved up to Bedford in 1983. I was born in Southampton and so being so far from the beach has taken a little getting used to. I went to University in Guildford (Surrey) and gained a degree in maths and economics, so what better career than as a Chartered Accountant.

I have been a Guide Leader since I was 21 and am currently the County International Adviser, having been the County Treasurer for the previous 14 years.  I also sit on the Finance and General Purposes Committee of the Guide Association - which involves meetings at HQ in London four or five times a year. My claim to fame is that I took a party of Guides to Taiwan in 2006 to take part in a Centenary Camp for Scouting.  It was a fantastic experience!

I am a founder member of the Club.  I joined to meet new people in different fields to the ones that I usually work in.  My work involves looking after about 150 clients, some with household names, in auditing their pension fund accounts.  I like to think I am not the proverbial boring grey-suited accountant, although I do confess to having grey suits.
