The challenge of writing a personal profile! A founder member of the De Parys Rotary club, I joined because I wanted to give something back and have found the 3F formula of fun, fellowship and fundraising has worked for me.
Why? Because having fun is important to me I like to spend my time doing things I enjoy, and one of the main things I enjoy is mixing with interesting and like-minded people, preferably over a meal (because I also enjoy eating and drinking), but also by "doing" something creative. So my hobbies are amateur dramatics and choral singing - certainly fun activities.!
Fellowship is equally important to me; I live in Potton where there is a strong sense of community and another of my passions is involvement in the community. This has manifested itself into Local News TV - web-based community TV. The work of my core company, You Unlimited, is to improve communication between people in corporations and I am doing this with such organisations as Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Fowler Welch Coolchain Logistics and Coca Cola Enterprises. Local-News TV will be expanding this philosophy to link people in communities and communicate good news stories.
I am also a trustee of the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation Trust, and Local-News.TV will be giving back a percentage of our profits to this Trust to help people and organisations in Bedfordshire. This links into the third Rotary F word - fundraising. Whether it is to raise money for charities, or create personal wealth, it is important to me that I enjoy the way I make money - and I do!
One more F is important to me - family. My husband Ken is very supportive of everything I do, and just let's me get on with it. Amy and Tom have both graduated with drama degrees, and now have successful careers at Sky Sports and Pearson Education - so life is sweet.
So that's Judy Oliver - a hedonist with a conscience!
